Boomer Beauty Buzz Skincare Advice and Products for Aging Skin 
Hello, once again from Joan Whitehead, your Fifty Is Nifty Beauty Advisor and fellow Boomer! Below is a picture of me back at the Estee Lauder counter... 
Taken in 2002 with two of my beauty advisors, Sue and Pam (I'm on the right) Our store received the Estee Lauder "Counter Of The Year" award in 2002! Yes, I am a former Estee Lauder Counter Manager...a Certified Makeup Artist and Certified Fragrance Consultant. I spent many years advising my customers (many of them were Boomers) about skincare from the Estee Lauder Counter I worked at in Minnesota. Although I am no longer affiliated with Estee Lauder, my experiences along with the knowledge I acquired during my employment, have given me an ongoing interest in skincare for boomers! My success with Estee Lauder was a result of my candid honesty with my customers. They trusted me and knew I was being straight with them. People bought from me because they knew I believed in what I was doing and that I was there to help them, and not just to make a sale! Just for the record... I haven't changed! My reason for telling you all this is not to brag. It is so you know that I am here to give you honest advice and to recommend products that I believe in. Having said that, let's get on to the subject of skincare, and in particular, anti-aging skincare!
My Slant On Skincare
by Joan Whitehead Aging is drag, especially when it comes to our skin. It was hard enough when we were younger to choose the right skincare. And now, as we see the signs of aging as the years go by, it is quite a challenge to know what will keep our skin looking good! This is further complicated by the ongoing success of the beauty industry and the endless options available to us! It is my ambitious desire to lessen the burden of determining which products are best from the endless options available to you! My opinion of the beauty industry is that high price does not always mean high quality. However, my experience has taught me that high-quality cosmetics are a result of the latest technology, which does come with a "pricier" product. Be aware that there are many cosmetic companies out there advertising what their products will do for you, but what matters is "what's in it" and "do you need it"! In an effort to put this all into perspective, I think this will help: Estee Lauder puts a lot of time and effort into educating their Beauty Advisors. During the years I worked for them, I was constantly going to seminars to learn about their products...how they work, why they work (the ingredients) and who they would work best on. The first thing I learned from Estee Lauder was to determine your customer's concerns and the results she (he) is looking for. This lesson will help you when it comes to making choices for yourself... To start with, "Tell me about your skin ~ what are your main concerns?" By listening carefully to what they have to say, and asking them a few more questions, is the key to determing what products to recommend...
Basic skin type Their age, and what concerns them the most (like wrinkles, age spots, loss of firmness, etc., etc.) What they are currently using and how is it working for them
We would then sum things up by saying, "From what you tell me, you have "dry" skin, you are concerned with "wrinkles" and you are using "whatever" and it does not seem to be helping. I would then recommend a cleanser that does not strip the skin of it's moisture, a treatment product to restore the skin's moisture content and an enriching moisturizer. What matters is your skin and what concerns you about your skin!
